Dankrite was a show which Amazon picked up for one season while I was working at Focus Design and Photo LLC. The series would have centered around seven protagonists who travel around the mystical continent of Artempta in search of bounties. All the while, getting themselves mixed up in anti government plots and forgotten ancient magics. During my time with the show I was the Lead Artist/Visual Director and was in charge of creating the backgrounds and character rigs. I also dabbled as an Animation Director, Storyboard Artist, Voice Actor, Editor, Audio Engineer, and Marketer for the series. Unfortunately, Amazon decided to cut our pay, drop the episode count to five, renegotiate, and eventually, cancel our contract all together. Despite that, I had a wonderful time.

The characters in Dankrite were designed to feel right out of a DnD game. I asked for input from each character’s actor to make them more like someone they would actually play in a RPG setting. My character, Garf, was designed to look amateurish, hence the “thumb in play-doh” armor.

While the world was fantasy-based, I wanted to make sure it had lots of texture to it. A lot of inspiration was taken from the work of Walt Peregoy and his work on ‘Scooby-Doo Where Are You?’, particularly in colors.

I cannot express how excited I was to see these designs printed on actual shirts. It’s nice to see your work on physical merchandise! I worked for a long time to get everyone’s portraits looking their best for these. The ‘character minis’ came about from a sketch I did while deciding on color schemes and it stuck with the rest of the crew.
